Efficient Build-Up of High-Strength Aluminum Structures Using Friction Stir Additive Manufacturing
نویسندگان
چکیده
Friction Stir Additive Manufacturing (FSAM) is a novel process with which large-scale aluminum structures can be produced from high-strength alloys such as the 7xxx series. Due to prevalence of these in airplanes and rockets, offers high application potential, for example fabricating stringers stiffeners. The building FSAM characterized by sequentially stacking friction stir lap welding (FSLW) metal sheets. Before adding next layer, surface machined (i.e., milling). So far, this necessary step enable gap-free layers, results increased costs reduced layer heights. investigations described paper were aimed at improving weld quality defect-free without additional machining step. For this, FSLW was conducted using different tools. resulting welds evaluated based on superficial internal characteristics well mechanical properties (shear strength). With tool both rotating stationary shoulder combined, seams mean underfill flash height 0.07 mm produced. In subsequent study, it proven that possible up fifth combined tool.

متن کاملAnalysis and Comparison of Friction Stir Welding and Laser Assisted Friction Stir Welding of Aluminum Alloy
Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a solid-state joining process; i.e., no melting occurs. The welding process is promoted by the rotation and translation of an axis-symmetric non-consumable tool along the weld centerline. Thus, the FSW process is performed at much lower temperatures than conventional fusion welding, nevertheless it has some disadvantages. Laser Assisted Friction Stir Welding (LAFS...

متن کاملThe Strength of Friction Stir Welded and Friction Stir Processed Aluminium Alloys
Local strength of friction stir (FS) welds and FS processed aluminium alloys in heat treatable aluminium alloys is dominated by precipitation hardening. Strengthening due to stored dislocations is generally limited to 40MPa, and grain size strengthening is generally less than 10MPa. Local crystallographic texture can cause yield strength variation on the order of 5%. Published models for streng...
